Porta Dipinta (the Painted Gate) stood on the east side of the medieval city walls. Its name, still preserved today, gives the street its denomination. It earned this name because it was decorated with frescoes by artists from Bergamo, including Simone da Averara and Bartolomeo Cabrini. The fountain next to it was built symmetrically to the large vault covering the gate.
